Welcome!

“It was not just books that made a bookshop feel so right. This one was special. This one had welcomed her in.“

The English Bookshop

An inheritance, a bookshop and a promise...

I’m Janis Wildy, comfort read author.

Just say Britain to me and you’ve got my attention.

Don’t you love to sink into books that transport you to the enchanted gardens of England, on charming walks around the Scottish countryside or to exquisite bookshops in London?  Books that are set in these places are a true treat for me. With a cup of tea and a piece of chocolate, I hope you enjoy my first novel set in the very English town of Wakeby called The English Bookshop.

~

If you are like me, you are always looking for a book that matches up to your favorites.  Mine are The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim, Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher, Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. For movies, I love Under a Tuscan Sun, A Good Year, Shirley Valentine and Leap Year. Sure, I’ve seen Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I love Jane Austen in nearly any form!

I’ve been to England five times and spent those early trips with my parents doing family research about the Wildy family. My grandpa was born in London and my grannie was born in Staffordshire. I’ve inherited an enormous collection of teacups from my mother and father who were born in Canada. I currently live in Seattle surrounded by fresh salmon on the menu, romantic houseboats, extraordinary neighborhood gardens and the best coffee.

The English Bookshop

What is Lucy Baslow to do when she inherits a charming bookshop in the English countryside that she just can’t keep?  For fans of Jackie Fraser and Jenny Colgan looking for a comfort read about bookshops, English villages and following your dreams.

Lucy isn’t ready for a life’s journey when it comes knocking; she just wants to keep everything the same as the day her stepfather Paul died. Unfortunately, expenses have overtaken the small family business that she runs, forcing her to do something quickly to keep it afloat.

Luck seems to be on her side when she finds out she has inherited a bookshop in England from her estranged biological father. She travels to Wakeby, England, intent on selling the bookshop as soon as possible in order to save her own business. But once there she meets a wonderfully kind group of villagers who challenge her decision to make a quick sale. A handsome bookseller is especially intent on getting her to see that there was another side to her biological father.

What begins as a way to make money for her business in Seattle becomes a journey that uncovers family secrets and reveals the kindness of strangers. In Wakeby, Lucy must find a way to rewrite her past in order to follow her heart.

Step into the warm English village of Wakeby and enjoy browsing favorites at Baslow’s Bookshop, experience a full English breakfast at Hollyhock B&B and take a romantic walk in the luscious local gardens.
